Darebin BUG's 5th Birthday Celebration

Free Public Event

Preston Shire Hall, Cramer Street, Preston, Thursday 15 June at 7.30pm.

DarebinBUG invites cyclists from all over Melbourne to celebrate commuter cycling and meet the face behind the voice of 774's off-beat traffic reporter, Hilary Harper. This will be followed by a new evidence of bike commuter numbers presented by Tony Barton of VicRoads.

Special Guests

Hilary Harper: why a traffic reporter rides to work

Hilary Harper, 774 Traffic Reporter and producer on Red Symon’s Breakfast program gives some insights into the world behind the mike and explains that `some are born to traffic reporting and others have it thrust upon them’. Hilary has taken the opportunity to make her segment cater to the needs of all travellers - whether they're commuting or just getting around, on public transport, motorised vehicles, bikes or on foot.

Tony Barton: new evidence of commuter cycling numbers

VicRoads’ Manager of Bicycle Programs, Tony Barton, unveils the results of new data provided by underground counters on bike paths around Melbourne. Results show that some of the main commuter paths carry around 4000 cyclists a day, debunking the myth that bike paths are only for Sunday riders.
